Kumiko "Yankumi" Yamaguchi has finally realized her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. She begins her first day at an all-boys private high school and everything seems just perfect. Until she realizes that she's assigned as the homeroom teacher to a class of delinquents, that is. In fact, the entire school seems to be full of punks and hooligans. Not one to be deterred, however, Yankumi faces her class head-on and hopes to win them over. Unfortunately, her students aren't easily impressed. She's not cute and is actually kind of a dork. But the longer her students get to know her, the more it becomes apparent that something's not quite right about her. Why is she able to catch a pachinko ball when it's thrown at her back? How come she isn't intimidated by a group of teenage boys who threaten her? It turns out Yankumi is no ordinary teacher. She's the granddaughter of the head of a powerful yakuza clan, as well as its next heir! Unfortunately, yakuza members are viewed as anything but respectable, so she must keep her family ties a secret. Gokusen follows Yankumi as she strives to keep her yakuza background hidden while inspiring her students to become productive members of society.
